What is Hypnosis?

Hypnosis is a state of mind where a person's consciousness becomes highly focused and receptive to suggestion. It's like entering a deep state of relaxation where the mind becomes more open to positive changes and new perspectives. During hypnosis, individuals experience heightened concentration and are more susceptible to the power of suggestion.

The process involves a trained hypnotherapist guiding the person into a relaxed state through calming techniques such as deep breathing and visualization. Once in this state, the person becomes more receptive to the hypnotist's suggestions, which can help them address certain issues or achieve specific goals.

Contrary to popular belief, hypnosis is not about controlling someone's mind or making them do things against their will. Instead, it's a cooperative process where the person being hypnotized willingly participates and allows their mind to be more open to positive suggestions. They remain aware of their surroundings and retain their ability to make decisions.

Hypnosis has been used for various purposes, including managing stress, alleviating phobias, managing pain, improving sleep, boosting confidence, and even aiding in smoking cessation or weight loss. Hypnosis can be a powerful tool.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What Is Hypnosis?

Hypnosis is a completely normal state of mind that we all go into several times a day. For example, day dreaming, driving home from work on auto pilot, reading a book, and forgetting what you just read after turning the page are all good examples of the State of Mind called Hypnosis. That happens every day.

When we think of traditional Hypnosis it is a combination of well-known and normal psychological states – which when all put together creates the effects of Hypnosis and is used in hypnotherapy and stage hypnosis. Hypnotherapy is the formal name that has been given to the formal application of various methods to place a person into this state on relaxed mind and laser beam focus. Because it feels like such a normal state and they were expecting something very strange, some people ask if they've really been hypnotized. The zombie- type states you see being shown in movies and TV are pure fantasy.

What Does It Feel Like To Be Hypnotized?

Can you remember how it feels just before you fall asleep at night? Hypnosis is a natural state that feels almost like that.

When you awaken from hypnosis, you feel refreshed and revitalized. You'll feel as if you were relaxing in a very comfortable space. You'll be able to hear everything like my voice, the sounds outside the building, a car going down the street outside. Most people will feel relaxed and calm.

Is Hypnosis "Mind Control"?

NO!!! Not at all. No one under hypnosis can be made to do anything against his or her will. Your moral and ethical codes will still be in place under hypnosis.

The unconscious mind’s job is to protect and help you. Just like you cannot be made to do anything against your will, you will also not say anything to embarrass you, say anything you don’t want to say, or do more than you are comfortable doing. Usually, if a hypnotherapist`s suggestion conflicts with a client’s value system, the client simply “wakes up.” You are in complete control at all times.

How Much Will I Remember In Hypnotherapy?

Remembering the experience is entirely an individual thing, it totally depends on you. If you want to, you will remember.

How Do I Know I Can Be Hypnotized?

Everyone can be hypnotized. The only controlling factor is that the person has to be willing to be hypnotized.

“All hypnosis is self-hypnosis”, which means if you want to do it, you will. There are a very small minority of people who have difficulty being hypnotized they are usually those who don’t really want to be hypnotized or can’t relax and let go enough (perhaps fearing loss of control, which we know is a myth, or fearing the unknown) to go with the experience.

Can I "Get Stuck" In A Hypnotic State?

NO. Not at all. Hypnosis is a very natural and normal state and you cannot hold anyone against will. If a client were to go so deep as to enter a truly deep state, they would simply go into natural sleep and awaken when they were rested.

Can I Get Hurt During Hypnotherapy?

No! In over two hundred years of recorded hypnosis history, there is no documented case of anyone being hurt with hypnosis.

What If I'm Under A Doctor's Care Or Taking Medication?

If you have any questions about whether or not hypnosis will help or conflict with a present medical condition, please call and ask us, if we don’t know the answer we will ask you to call your physician. Under some circumstances, we may require your physician to sign a release so they understand you are currently seeking hypnotherapy.

Hypnosis can often complement traditional medical care and better or more informed doctors favor it. It can act as an adjunct to medical treatment.

Can Hypnosis Help Me?

Hypnosis is used to change attitudes, beliefs, and behaviors. It will not make you grow taller or change the color of your eyes or cure cancer. But it will help with emotional states of mind that contribute towards the healing of conditions and works with ‘Attitudes, Beliefs and Behaviors’. That said, I have personally used hypnotherapy to manage chronic migraines without medication and overcome leg neuropathy.

What Is The Difference Between Self Hypnosis, Meditation, and Guided Imagery?

There’s not a tremendous difference between them at all. Some other things that are similar are “Guided Imagery” or “Previewing” which perhaps sound a little less mystical than “Hypnosis” and “Self-Hypnosis.” All of these processes are simple procedures to relax the body and focus the mind. The state you attain can feel similar to each other no matter what you choose to call it.

How Does Hypnosis Work?

In hypnosis, we work with your subconscious or unconscious mind. This is the part of you that runs all of your “automatic, patterned responses” to life. I like to call it your computer program. You don't consciously think about each breath you take or each beat of your heart you take or blink of your eyes, your computer program does that for you.

When you enter hypnosis, your subconscious mind becomes the more dominant awareness and together, we are more easily able to make shifts and changes to patterns that are no longer working for your highest interest. Like of like changing or making tweaks to your computer program for that area you are having issues with.

How Long Does It Take To See The Results Of Hypnotherapy?

Because we are all different, and in different places in the process of change, the amount of sessions it will take to reach your goals is different for everyone. We will tailor your program specifically for you. After your first session, you will have a good sense if hypnotherapy is going to work for you and then we will lay out a program that works best for your goals and your budget. Sure, some clients have had huge results in 1 session but follow sessions may be necessary.

Will I Revile My Secrets To You During Hypnosis?

No, during most hypnotherapy sessions you will remain relaxed, still and silent. You are in control. Some techniques require you to speak, but these will only be performed after you feel very comfortable with those methods, and you decide it is what you want. During hypnosis sessions that require you to speak, you will be in complete control. You will not be asked to divulge any secrets, nor would you accidentally divulge them. If you are uncomfortable with any part of the hypnotherapy session, you will simply come out of hypnosis. You are in complete control.

Is Hypnosis Compatible With My Religious Views?

All major religions view hypnosis as a tool for therapeutic purposes. Some of the religious concerns associated with hypnotherapy come from the myths about hypnosis being mind control. Be rest assured these are myths. Hypnosis cannot change your values or spiritual beliefs. In fact, most people feel a deeper connection to their spiritual beliefs in hypnosis

What Can I Expect During My First Hypnosis Session?

The first session is about getting to know each other better and getting you accustomed to the hypnotic state. We begin by looking closely at the areas you wish to focus on and the changes or improvements you wish to make. Then you sit in a relaxing chair and simply listen to your hypnotherapist’s voice as you enter a relaxed state where you are given specific suggestions to help achieve your goals. When your session is over you will open your eyes and feel refreshed and relaxed.

Are My Hypnosis Sessions Confidential?

Yes. Confidentiality, your general well-being and safety are my number one priorities.
